Above & Beyond Award, 4/18
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Foundation presents an award within PBSO called the Above & Beyond Award. The recipient of the Sheriff’s Foundation Above & Beyond Award for April, 2018 is Community Service Aide Melissa Fielding.
At the end of last year, someone called CSA Fielding about a dog running loose in a remote area near Belle Glade. CSA Fielding is known in the community for rescuing dogs, so she receives many calls like this.
After arriving on scene, CSA Fielding spent a lot of time trying to catch the dog, but the dog was too elusive. In her efforts to catch the dog, she discovered a suspicious, unattended vehicle in the area. She alerted law enforcement, at which point she found out that the vehicle had been stolen a week earlier, and that there was a dog in the car at the time of the theft.
The victim was contacted and responded to the scene with her three children. Because of this, the dog came out of hiding and was reunited with the thankful family.
During this ordeal, CSA Fielding learned that the family was struggling financially and that the loss of the car made things worse. CSA Fielding worked with the District 9 Community Outreach Coordinator to make sure the family had a happy holiday season. Thanks to CSA Fielding, District 9, the Loxahatchee Lost and Found Pets organization and the Western Academy Charter School, the whole family received gifts, even the dog!
Thanks to this PBSO employee’s selfless compassion and dedication, a family was able to get back their car and their beloved pet, and have an enjoyable Christmas. Community Service Aide Melissa Fielding, the Sheriff’s Foundation thanks you for going Above & Beyond! |
