Above & Beyond Award, 8/16
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Foundation presents an award within PBSO called the Above & Beyond Award.
The recipient of the Above & Beyond Award for August is Deputy Yordan Perez.
A few months ago, Deputy Perez responded to a residential burglary at a home in Lake Worth. In the course of his investigation, Deputy Perez found out that the victims just moved here from Colorado, and that their daughter Melissa is blind.
One of the items stolen from the home was Melissa’s laptop computer. The computer contained special software for the blind which gave Melissa the freedom to communicate with the outside world.
Deputy Perez was so moved by Melissa’s situation that he went out the next day and bought a new laptop for Melissa out of his own pocket.
Melissa and her family were very touched by the generosity shown to them by Deputy Perez, and they made a point of coming to the awards ceremony. Melissa brought a tear to everyone's eye with her emotional remarks.
Thanks to Deputy Perez’s compassion, a negative event was turned into a positive, and the impact will not soon be forgotten. Deputy Perez, the Sheriff’s Foundation thanks you for going Above & Beyond! |
