The pet dog of Derrick and Kasey Hoskins, Serafina, disappea
red from the Hoskins’ home in Palm Beach Gardens. After looking at their security cameras, they saw that Serafina had escaped out of the backyard and had ventured to the front of their house. The video then showed a person in a pickup truck pull into their driveway, take Serafina, and drive off.
Needless to say, Derrick, Kasey and their two children were distraught over the prospect of never seeing their beloved pet again.
Kasey called PBSO and soon Detective Crosby Mays, Detective Kelsey Shults, and Detective Mark Riemer were on the case. A door-to-door canvas was conducted where additional video surveillance was obtained showing unique features of the pickup truck.
The detectives were able to locate the truck and interview the driver who admitted to keeping the dog at a residence in Jupiter. The detectives responded to that residence, recovered Serafina, and were able to return her to the Hoskins less than 24 hours after she disappeared!
Thanks to these PBSO employees’ compassion and dedication, a cherished pet was quickly reunited with its loving family. Detective Mays, Detective Shults, and Detective Riemer were honored with the Sheriff’s Foundation Above & Beyond Award on 12/12/23.
