It’s our pleasure to announce that the recipients of the Sheriff’s Foundation Above & Beyond Award for May, 2022 are PBSO Corporal Adrian Maldonado and Deputy James Mackey! Cpl. Maldonado and D/S Mackey have helped numerous people in the course of their duties on the Homeless Intervention Team, often reaching into their own pockets. This award is focused on one particular case.
Sgt. Bert Gaudreau was contacted regarding a homeless man and his dog. The man worked construction and lived on the streets near the site he works at. His mother had recently died and he was a drug user. After Sgt. Gaudreau and Cpl. Maldonado found the man, Cpl. Maldonado and D/S Mackey started working their magic. They got the man a bed at a drug facility so he could get cleaned up and detox. Then they got him insurance, medication, clothes, a place to stay and free bus passes so he could travel to and from work.
Cpl. Maldonado and D/S Mackey personally drove the man to the DMV and got him an ID card. They even arranged for his dog to get free vet care. Sgt. Gaudreau believes they saved the lives of the man and his dog.
Thanks to these PBSO employees’ compassion and dedication, a homeless man and his dog were assisted during their time of need. Corporal Maldonado and Deputy Mackey, the Sheriff’s Foundation thanks you for going Above & Beyond!
