The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Foundation presents an award within PBSO called the Above & Beyond Award. The recipient of the Sheriff’s Foundation Above & Beyond Award for August, 2018 is Office Support Supervisor Abby Bernstein.
Throughout her career, Abby has been involved in philanthropic endeavors. Most recently, she had the idea to help women who were going through a hard time in their lives. Abby started collecting gently used purses, and then filling them with toiletries such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc.
What started out as a small idea with a few friends, blossomed into a District 6 project dubbed “Women Helping Women.” The purses and supplies started rolling in.
With the help of Media Relations Bureau Director Teri Barbera, Abby reached out to the Family Promise charity. Family Promise helps homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence. The Family Promise director was very grateful and excited about Abby’s project.
It was important to Abby to hand-deliver the purses, so she and Family Promise organized a distribution event. In April, Abby and some co-workers handed out an impressive 75 purses, each one stuffed with lots of essential products. The women were elated and very thankful.
Thanks to this PBSO employee’s selfless compassion and dedication, 75 underprivileged women were assisted during their time of need. Office Support Supervisor Abby Bernstein, the Sheriff’s Foundation thanks you for going Above & Beyond!
